Up until now Washington DC has refused to enforce America’s stringent immigration laws.
Jorge Garcia is one example.
As MSNBC’s Steve Benen wrote Tuesday “Jorge Garcia of Michigan apparently doesn’t have a criminal record. He does, however, have a wife and two children, all of whom are American citizens. Yesterday, however, he had to say goodbye to them. As USA Today reported, Garcia, an undocumented immigrant who was brought to the United States from Mexico at age 10, was deported after three decades of life in the United States.”
This is the disconnect.
Despite Benen’s claim to the contrary, Garcia does have a ‘criminal record’ given he is in the country illegally. Democrats, and many so-called RINO Republicans have allowed politics and emotion to be the driving force in the immigration debate; federal immigration law is simply irrelevant much like it is with state pot laws.
“This is obviously a very sad story,” writes Brenen, “and the deportation of a man who doesn’t match the president’s description of a ‘bad hombre.’ Mr. Garcia is nonetheless a lawbreaker and is required by law to apply for citizenship.
As reported by USA Today:
“Garcia had been facing an order of removal from immigration courts since 2009, but under the previous administration, he had been given stays of removal. Because of the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration, in November Jorge Garcia was ordered to return to Mexico.”
According to the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) taxpayers at the federal, state, and local levels, shell out approximately $134.9 billion annually to cover the costs incurred by the more than 12.5 million illegal aliens, and about 4.2 million citizen children of illegal aliens.
Thankfully there is finally a president willing to use our laws to govern the country, and not his emotions.
