BIAS: Obama said “monkeyed around’ in 2008, media never batted an eye

If a Republican uses the same phrase as a Democrat, apparently only the Republican is racist.

That’s what the mainstream media has been arguing since Florida Republican Gubernatorial nominee Rep. Ron DeSantis urged voters in the state on Wednesday not to “monkey around” and let his Democratic challenger win the general election in November.

While many on the Left were calling DeSantis racist, Breitbart unearthed a video from 2008 when then-Sen. Barack Obama, D-IL, made nearly the exact same comment as DeSantis in a speech.

On Sept. 3, 2008, Obama told voters in a speech that politicians had “monkeyed around” with elections for years, using almost the exact same phrase as DeSantis did on Wednesday.

“I come from Chicago. It’s not as if it’s just Republicans who have monkeyed around with elections in the past. Sometimes Democrats have, too. You know, whenever people are in power, they have this tendency to try to tilt things in their direction.”

Of course, liberals were completely unbothered in 2008 when Obama made the comment, yet now they are labeling DeSantis as a full-blown bigot.

Here’s his full quote on Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, a self-described socialist who won the Democratic nomination on Tuesday and will face-off against DeSantis in November’s general election:

“I watched those Democrats debates, and none of that is just my cup of tea, but he performed better than the other people there, so we gotta work hard to make sure that we continue Florida going in a good direction. The last thing we need to do is to monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases bankrupting the state.”

DeSantis said Floridians don’t need to “monkey this up” by voting for a man who wants socialism in America, which he said will bankrupt the state. But that didn’t stop left-leaning outlets like CNN from attacking DeSantis and portraying him as being racist.

CNN published two articles on Wednesday, titled, “GOP candidate accused of using racist term” and “Florida’s GOP gubernatorial nominee says a vote for his black opponent would ‘monkey this up’, where the reports portrayed DeSantis’ “monkey this up” remark as racist.

But more importantly, Townhall’s Katie Pavlich compiled a list of several Democrats regularly using a similar term “monkeying around,” including some who worked for Obama.

Here are a few videos:

When Obama and Democrats say it, the media doesn’t bat an eye. When a Republican uses the phrase, he’s accused of being a full-blown racist.
