Antifa mobilizers and activists attacked Christians at a peaceful prayer and worship event in downtown Portland on Saturday, reports the Post Millennial. The prayer event featured pastor Artur Pawlowski, who made headlines this spring when he defied Canadian COVID lockdown orders by continuing in-person services at his church in Calgary, Alberta.
After a flyer circulated advertising the event, Portland Antifa groups mobilized on Twitter, with one member tweeting, “Welcome to Portland, you won’t like it here, pastor.” Antifa members then descended on the open-air event at Tom McCall Waterfront Park near the Battleship Oregon Memorial.
Antifa members donned in all black clothing, masks, and riot gear assaulted the gathering, reportedly throwing flash bombs and spraying mace at attendees. The disruptors could be heard yelling, “Where is your God now?” as they harassed the crowd.
Shield-wielding and profanity-spewing militants wreaked havoc while the Christian worshipers scrambled to distance themselves. The sound equipment for the event was stolen and tossed into the nearby Willamette River. An Antifa Twitter account claimed that the militants also stole the parishioners’ food.
A female attendee of the event described the shocking scene, saying, “Antifa just rolled in like an angry mob, started throwing flash bombs at everybody, macing everybody . . . They threw a flash bomb into a group of kids that were out there from four months old to like 10.”
A mother alleged that Antifa threw a firework and had another woman not blocked the projectile with her arm (now burned with a sizable welt, the woman claims), the weapon would have hit her baby’s face.
Later that same day, alleged members of the Proud Boys in their signature yellow and black garb clashed with Antifa on a near-by city street. Directly in front of a patrol car, a masked Antifa member attempted to pepper-spray a counter-protester, with the protester firing a paint-ball gun. As the confrontation ensued between the two groups, the police officer remained in his vehicle, and a bystander could be heard yelling at him, “Do your job!”
A spokesperson for the PDX Proud Boys disavowed the group, clarifying that they were “unknown individuals . . . mimicking” Proud Boy outfits.
Similar events occurred again on Sunday when Christians returned to attend a worship service with Pastor Sean Feucht, a worship leader with global influence, now with volunteer security. Antifa riot members observed from afar due to being greatly outnumbered; however, they pounced on the event’s security when the service concluded. Similar to the day before, Antifa is alleged to have thrown chunks of concrete and lined the pavement with caltrops designed to pop tires, the Post Millennial reported.
Portland police officers did not intervene during any of the confrontations and made no arrests.
Antifa’s assault on Christians is just the latest installment of their vehement violence perpetrated in Portland. Since the summer 2020 Black Lives Matter protests, Antifa has become emboldened in their militant law-breaking.
Under the guise of “anti-fascism,” Portland members have vandalized government buildings and terrorized local residents and businesses. One member was even charged with murdering a Trump supporter.
