Dr. Anthony Fauci is at it again.
Over the weekend, former President Barack Obama celebrated his 60th birthday with a massive birthday party in Martha’s Vineyard. There were hundreds of maskless, un-socially distanced invitees dancing, quaffing adult beverages, and more. All inside a similarly massive tent. (As seen here courtesy of the Daily Mail.)
Then there is South Dakota’s 81st Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. It too attracts hundreds — actually thousands — of ordinary motorcycle-loving Americans, and there are no elites to be found.
Now move to Dr. Fauci, well aware of both events. Fauci appeared on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday and said this:
“I’m very concerned, Chuck, that we’re going to see another surge related to that rally. . . . There comes a time when you’re dealing with a public health crisis, that could involve you, your family, and everyone else that something supersedes that need to do exactly what you want to do.”
That’s right. There was not a word from Dr. Fauci about the Obama birthday party. Not . . . a . . . single . . . word.
What’s really going on here? It was best captured by, of all people, a New York Times White House correspondent, Annie Karni. Karni said one of the attendees poo-pooed the idea that the Obama party could be a superspreader event because this was a “sophisticated” crowd that was “following all the safety precautions.”
Got that? If you ride a motorcycle, you’re not “sophisticated.” This is doubtless news to this partial list of Hollywood celebs, actual or presumed Obama supporters who own motorcycles — and sometimes more than one. That would include George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Jay Leno, and more.
The difference between Fauci’s silence on the Obama mass gathering and the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is, in reality, a look inside the mind of not a doctor, but rather a look into the mind of a liberal elitist class warrior. As in, America is divided between the sophisticates and, you know, those other people — the Hillary Clinton deplorables or the Barack Obama bitter clingers and so on and so forth.
Here’s the CDC’s latest statement on masking up by way of PBS:
“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reimposed stricter mask-wearing guidelines Tuesday. It said Americans, even if fully vaccinated, should wear masks indoors in regions where COVID-19 infections are high, and recommended that everyone in K-12 schools mask up.”
Note the line that said: “Americans, even if fully vaccinated, should wear masks indoors in regions where COVID-19 infections are high.”
Here is the CDC on the COVID-19 rates in Martha’s Vineyard as reported by WCVB5, the local ABC affiliate:
“Many of Massachusetts’ most beloved summer getaway destinations are now seeing ‘high’ rates of COVID-19 transmission, according to the latest map from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard are all now in that peak category on the CDC’s nationwide map, which sorts the rate of transmission into four color codes for every county in the country. A fourth Massachusetts county, Bristol County, is also in the high transmission category.”
In other words, the CDC says that “Americans, even if fully vaccinated, should wear masks indoors in regions where COVID-19 infections are high” — and according to the very same CDC, Martha’s Vineyard meets that description exactly. And, yes indeed, so did the Obama birthday party.
A better example of the modern Left and its raging sense of both elitism and its contempt for average Americans would be hard to find.
Thanks, Dr. Fauci, for making things so crystal clear.
